Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, often called KAP, brings psychotherapy into the preparation and integration of medically supervised ketamine treatment.

The work is not only about the medicine session itself. It is about the reasons you are seeking change, what comes forward during the experience, and how you carry what matters into the rest of your life.

My role is the psychotherapy. Ketamine prescribing, medical screening, and medication administration are handled by the appropriate medical provider.

KAP may include

  • Preparation — making space for your questions, hopes, fears, context, and intentions before treatment

  • Therapeutic support — psychotherapy coordinated with your treatment plan and medical provider

  • Integration — returning to what arose with care, honesty, and enough time to understand what it may mean for you

There is no required way for a ketamine experience to unfold, and there is no expectation that it will provide a single clear answer. We will work with what is actually present: thoughts, emotions, memories, sensations, relationships, patterns, and the practical realities of your life.

Ketamine Preparation

You do not have to begin ketamine treatment already knowing exactly what you want from it.

Ketamine preparation sessions are for people who are considering treatment, have already been referred to a medical provider, or want therapeutic support before a planned series of sessions. We can explore what is bringing you here, what feels important to tend to beforehand, and how you want to care for yourself afterward.

Preparation may include:

  • clarifying what you are hoping to explore without making promises about outcomes

  • naming concerns, fears, or questions that deserve room before treatment

  • looking at the relationships, stressors, or patterns that form the larger context of your life

  • creating a realistic plan for rest, support, and integration after treatment

Medical eligibility for ketamine is determined by the prescribing clinician. Therapy preparation is a place to consider the emotional and relational side of the process.

Psychedelic Integration Sessions

Psychedelic integration sessions are for people who want to thoughtfully process a past psychedelic experience—whether it felt meaningful, difficult, beautiful, frightening, confusing, incomplete, or simply hard to put into words.

You do not need to have had a dramatic experience for integration to be useful. Sometimes the most important part is noticing what has shifted in how you see yourself, your relationships, your body, your faith, your work, or the direction of your life.

These sessions are not about telling you what an experience “means.” They are a place to stay close to your own experience, bring curiosity to what remains unresolved, and consider how you want to live with what you learned or felt.

Psychedelic integration sessions do not include the provision, recommendation, or administration of psychedelic substances.

HOW I WORK WITH KETAMINE AND PSYCHEDELICS

Get beneath the surface.

My work is relational, direct, and spacious. I pay attention to what is happening beneath the surface—not to make your experience more mystical or more clinical than it is, but to help you be honest about what is here.

We may spend time with:

  • relationship patterns and the ways you protect yourself

  • feeling stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure of what is next

  • grief, transition, identity, and questions of meaning

  • the connection between insight and the everyday choices that follow

This is psychotherapy, not spiritual direction or medical care (though sometimes you may have a spiritual experience). Most importantly, you remain the authority on your own experience, and you decide the meaning of what arises.

Psychedelic Therapy Common Questions

4

What is ketamine-assisted psychotherapy?

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, or KAP, is psychotherapy that supports the preparation and integration of medically supervised ketamine treatment. The work makes room for what brings you to treatment, what arises during the process, and what you want to carry into your life afterward.

1

Do you prescribe or administer ketamine?

No. My role is the psychotherapy. Ketamine prescribing, medical eligibility, screening, and medication administration are handled by an appropriate medical provider. If you are considering KAP or are already working with a provider, we can talk in a consultation about whether the psychotherapy portion may be a fit.

2

What are psychedelic integration sessions?

Do I need to know exactly what I want from ketamine treatment before we begin?

No. You do not need to arrive with a perfect intention or a clear answer. Preparation can be a place to bring your questions, hopes, fears, and the larger context of your life. There is no promised outcome and no required way for an experience to unfold.

Psychedelic integration sessions offer a place to thoughtfully process a past psychedelic experience. They may be useful when an experience felt meaningful, difficult, confusing, unfinished, or simply hard to put into words. These sessions do not include the provision, recommendation, or administration of psychedelic substances.

If you’ve ever struggled to understand the deeper roots of your patterns, this might help.

A consultation can help us decide if KAP is right for you.
